Arizona Sports and
Tourism Authority awards
$1.6 million in 2012
Youth and Amateur Sports Biennial Grants
GLENDALE- The Arizona
Sports and Tourism Authority Board of Directors voted to
award $1.6 million in grants as part of the youth and
amateur sports biennial grant process.
The grants will assist 17
organizations for projects that serve the youth and
amateur sports community within Maricopa County. Grant
locations are as wide spread as Gila Bend, Morristown,
Mesa and Gilbert. Projects which were partially funded
ranged from equipment for visually impaired children for
the Foundation to Blind Children, to the construction of
a sports field complex for Veritas Preparatory Academy
at their South Phoenix campus.
Grants were awarded based on projects serving youth and
amateur sports and promoting physical activity, which
demonstrated financial need, leveraged funding,
community partnerships, and a demonstrated benefit to a
local community in Maricopa County.
“On
behalf of our Board Chair Judy Bernas, Youth and Amateur
Sports Committee Chair Verma Pastor and the AZSTA Board
of Directors, we are pleased to announce the names of
the recipients of our 2012 Biennial Grant Program.
Since its inception in 2000, AZSTA has funded over 125
projects and distributed nearly $14.5 million dollars
throughout Maricopa County.” said AZSTA President and
CEO, Tom Sadler.
